Autologous fat transplantation
General
The idea is quite simple: Fat is extracted from abdomen or thighs for the correction of wrinkles or facial volume-loss or other body parts.
Technique
The appropriate technique is clearly more complicated:
The removal of fat cells is performed similar to Liposuction but more gentle. Afterwards the fat will be processed in further steps and
separated from the aqueous sedative liquid, blood, and parts of the conjunctive tissue. The fat is then poured into small 1ml syringes and
with micro cannulas placed underneath the skin in a 3-dimensional meshwork, so that single fat cells can be integrated by the surrounding
tissue as well as possible. I always freeze additional fat so I can inject when required without great effort.
Aftercare
Autologous fat transplantation usually takes 1-2 sessions, in some rare cases more. The particularity of this method is that once fat cells are
integrated, a permanent result is achieved without any risks. After all it is the body's own tissue. Autologous fat transplantations easily be
performed under local anaesthesia or on an outpatient basis. You will come into clinic on the day of surgery. After appropriate preparation
the withdrawal and processing of the fat takes place in the operating room. Then the actual fat transplantation starts. After a rest period
the patient may go home. The face should be cooled fore 1-2 more days. The swelling is mostly gone after a few days, an intentional
over-correction obviously needs to be taken into account since 40-70% of the fat cells are integrated into the tissue.
