Hair Transplantation

General
Hair loss is mainly a problem that men have to face. The male sex hormone impairs the hair roots and induces hair loss. Here the congenital predisposition plays an important part. Nowadays patients are tempted stopping and reverse the loss of hair by medical therapy (Minioxidil, Propecia). Advanced cases or insufficient impact of other therapies often leave the affected patient with no other choice than to opt for hair transplantation. Hair transplantation benefits from the fact that hair on the backside of the head is resistant to hormone induced impairment and does not fall out even at an advanced age. One can take the bald-resistant hair from the hairy backpart of the head without apparent consequences and redistribute them to the bald areas in the front. Nowadays, due to modern techniques follicular unit hair transplantation does not leave scars. A natural, non-operated look is created especially at the hairline.

Technique
For hair transplantation no general anaesthesia is necessary. First the scalp will be numbed with local anaesthesia. At the fringe of hair a graft will be removed, the spot will carefully be sutured with fine threads so that no visible scar will be left. Also this spot will additionally be covered with other hair at the back of the head. The removed graft will then be worked off into single- and micro-hair-transplants by a professional team. These single transplants are now ready to be implanted into the pre-cut or moulded mini-apertures. Depending on the comprehensiveness the procedure will take about 2-3 hours. Because of the technical complexity about 1500 hairs can be implanted within one operation.

After treatment
After a short rest period the patient can spend a night in the clinic or in a hotel without any problems. The next day a check-up is made before the homeward journey is possible. We suggest wearing a cap for protection over the next few days - a bandage is not necessary. Smaller crusts at the hair transplants will detach by themselves after a couple of days. Shampooing is allowed with a mild shampoo only after 3 days. The result of the surgery is noticeable after a few months once the roots of the hair have thrived and the new hair starts growing.
